Engaging With Society
We want, through the GPA Institute, to prove transformation in society, strengthening the social call of our brands and establishing closer and more virtuous relationships among society, partners, customers, employees and associated institutions.
Two pillars support our cause: learning life as a whole and food in the base of everything. Based on these concepts, we work on two axis: offering opportunities for awakening work by vocation and encouraging social mobilization actions.
Developing a healthy eating and sustainable chain of production
We support the development of inclusive production models focused on healthy eating, facilitating the access of producers to the markets and training those interested in organic farming techniques. On this front, Pão de Açúcar is the brand linked to the GPA Institute for promoting initiatives, implementing some projects such as Conexsus Challenge, which maps, diagnoses bottlenecks and selects organizations working in value-producing chains with the potential for scale-growth, and Business Through Earth, which identifies companies that would like to buy products from these sustainable businesses for connecting both and creating business opportunities.
Offering education to young people in vulnerability situations
Extra, through the GPA Institute, promotes technical training and formation programs in areas related to food with initiatives such as Hands on the Dough, quick courses in bakery and pastry for young people in the surrounding neighborhoods; Food Technology Advanced Center (NATA), technical professional education for students of the public education system of Rio de Janeiro; and Seeds Project, training in bakery, pastry and customer service for persons with disabilities.
Leverage and encourage local micro-entrepreneurship in the food industry in high-vulnerability regions
Assaí, through the GPA Institute, entourages entrepreneurship through the Assaí Good Business Academy which provides free online and in-person courses in business management and promotes recognition of entrepreneurs with the Assaí Good Business Academy Award and encouraging social organizations working on the theme.
Contributing to the awakening of music vocation and academic formation of young low-income populations
We stimulate development of musical talent and facilitate the access of students to private Higher Education institutions with the Music and Orchestra Program and with the Prosper Program, respectively.
Deepening relations between employees, customers, suppliers and social organizations for joint action as agents of transformation
The goal of Solidarity Day, which is always held at the end of the year, is to raise awareness among the public on the problems of hunger and poverty in Brazil. Pão de Açúcar, Extra, Assaí, Casas Bahia and Pontofrio stores participate of the initiative to collect non-perishable foods, which counts on volunteers and GPA employees.
